Cyprus situated in the north-eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea, at the cross-roads of Europe, Asia and Africa is known for its beauty, tourism, cultural history, and high quality lifestyle. The economy of Cyprus has evolved immensely in the past 30 years and today Cyprus has an excellent tourism industry and high quality telecommunications, banking and financial services. All these advantages have carried the country to the European Union.
The strategic location of the island has played an important role in its continuing development into a financial and tourist centre. With an area of 9,251 sq. km., Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily and Sardinia. Population is currently estimated at 790,000.
Cyprus enjoys perhaps the best type of Mediterranean climate with about 340 warm and sunny days a year. The light rainy season is usually confined to the period between November and March, with snow in the mountains occurring between December and April. During the six months of summer, the sun shines for an average of 11,5 hours a day, and around 5,5 hours during the cloudiest months of December and January. This mild and agreeable climate attracts both holiday makers and those looking to make their home in a warm climate.
Living in Cyprus
The Cypriot people are extremely hospitable, welcoming new comers to the island. Road transport between towns are very good with a motorway connecting all major towns, although you will be surprised at how little traffic is actually on the motorway. No large tail backs, just comfortable driving and lovely views.
Education on the island is of a very good standard. Foreign children are able to attend local Greek schools free of charge or if preferred English Medium Schools which follow the UK curriculum, taking pupils through G.C.S.E. "O" and "A" Levels.
You will find an excellent choice of sport, entertainment and shopping. Good fresh local produce and even those items you enjoyed at home! Healthcare is excellent with many Private Clinics and no waiting lists. Europeans can also use the General Hospital if they prefer and follow the registration requirements.
Cyprus offers you sunshine, a relaxed lifestyle, a safe haven to bring up a family and treasured memories.
